David McDonald Talks About His Time At OSI Group

David McDonald has spent his entire professional career working for a privately held company called OSI Group, LLC. He attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1987 with a degree in animal science. After graduating he joined OSI Group at its headquarters in Aurora, Illinois. His hard work and ability to manage people paid off as he was steadily promoted. He has now been the president and chief operating officer of this company for many years. He also has a seat on its board of directors.

As someone with deep experience in the food processing business, David McDonald has also served in a number of other roles in the food and beverage industry. He presently serves as the chairman of the North American Meat Institute, for instance. He used to be involved with Marfrig Global Foods S.A. as an independent director. He left this position in June 2017.

When David McDonald Attended Iowa State University he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Since that time he has stayed active with this fraternity as well as other matters at his alma mater. He is a sponsor of ISU’s Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative. OSI Group also has had many ISU students serve an internship both at their headquarters and in one of their food processing facilities. In 2004, he was presented with the Young Alumni Award by the ISU Alumni Association because of all the support he has shown this school over the years.

In an interview, David McDonald said that what attracted him to working at OSI Group was that the company’s leadership greatly aspired to grow. When he joined this company OSI Group sold processed food in both North America and Europe. In the 1990s it began to expand into Asia and now has offices and facilities in China, India, and other countries in that region of the world. He says that the company has a global vision and a mission to become the premier provider of processed foods the world over.

Another thing that he enjoys at OSI Group is a commitment to exceed the expectations of their customers. David McDonald says that in order to do so his company often needs to come up with creative solutions that meet the challenges their customers have. He says that because his company doesn’t have to answer to shareholders they can be a lot more nimble and flexible in meeting these needs.
